we have a beautiful blue and gold female macaw who is 24 years old known as Walter.
This lady came to us in very sad circumstances, her male owner had passed away 6 months previously and she had refused to come out of her cage since then and it was obvious she was struggling grieving for her daddy.
Her owner’s wife was seriously ill and was facing an operation and it was best Walter moved on at that point to find a new male keeper and to break the unhealthy situation of refusing to leave her cage.
Walter was placed in a different cage on arrival here and this helped her to move on with a fresh start coming out once again.

She has recently laid 2 eggs here at the rescue, so I’m assuming she is enjoying the company of other birds which is new to her. She wanders from cage top to cage top without too much mischief being done or getting into bother.
I’d like there to be at least one more bird as Walter has showed she enjoys company of others. Walter also adores music and will dance as soon as you put the radio on 😂😂 she keeps it up all day 😂😂. She came in on a seed diet with fresh food daily, she now has mostly pellets plus fresh food with a little bundle of seeds on top.
We have a criteria for macaws which is detatched homes only, someone home most of the day and no children under 3 years.
The rule for detatched homes is due to the level of noise they can make, please ONLY apply if you meet the criteria because otherwise your application will be rejected.
The successful applicant will need to enter into a rehoming contract one point of which is if at any time she can no longer be kept she must be returned to the rescue. She will come with a cage, food bowls perches, a couple of toys and her swing she has been using daily while here.
