Alex
We are inviting applications for Alex our lovely old umbrella cockatoo who has made just about everyone at the rescue heart melt.
What a lovely old boy he is! We don’t know exactly how old he is but our vet described him as elderly which matched the Exowners beliefs.
So here is a bit about him and the home we want for him.
Firstly anyone who applies will need screwdrivers and spanners, because Alex is a whiz at undoing the nuts and bolts on his cage lol.
His old cage he arrived with had several bars missing from it, we quickly replaced it purchasing one for him which is great and will go with him, bear in mind toos have big beaks and it may need to replaced again in the future.
He also eats wood for breakfast! Or he may as well have! He will need a constant stream of wooden toys to chew on.
Alex is like a toddler who just wants to be loved, so typical of his breed. He hates being left home alone or in a room alone except at bedtime when he is golden. The rest of the time he will shout on you until you return but as long as he can see you he’s perfectly happy to either sit on or in his cage. He’s not demanding needing held like some such as Dolly 😳.
In his foster home Alex has proved well mannered with other birds but non pluses as to whether he has bird company, he just wants human company.
So… We are only looking for someone who is at home all day. His foster mum goes to work for a couple hours daily and he cries the whole time she is away even if he has birdy company.
Alex has met children in his foster home and has responded to them with curiosity. But as he is a large cockatoo we are asking for a home without small children under 5.
Alex is fed on seed mix supplemented with fruit and veg. He is very choosy with his fresh food but he will come with a list of what he is already eating etc.
If you fit the criteria and would like to apply for Alex please drop me a message listing the type of home you can offer.
