Tango and Charlie
This is Tango and Charlie, a beautiful pair of blue and gold macaws. They are both 12 years old.
Tango is the more forward of the two birds, all I have needed to do to get her to step up is literally offer her an arm and she takes it stepping straight up. Charlie wants to be with Tango all the time so he’s literally waving a foot at me when she steps up wanting to come too. Their commitment to each other is extremely sweet.
Tango doesn’t fly, she can fly but is I’m told quite lazy as are a lot of macaws so she walks or gets carried, ut Iv been told not to be fooled! but Charlie Is fully flighted and I believe he’s a confident flyer.
She is not keen on a shower but will oblige with a quick shower or a spray with a bottle, whereas Charlie adores my power shower and stays in as long as I allow while Tango sits o the sink and waits for him. Tango plucks a bit as seen in a couple of areas
Tango likes little children, they have both lived in a family environment with previous owner, whereas Charlie prefers men he’s happy to sit back and watch her interact from the cage top but he will come for a cuddle when he wants one. Altho he’s more male orientated he’s accepted me, stepped up from day 1 but was a couple of months before I could fuss him. On speaking with the ex-owner he loved his wife as well as him, he just needs time to really her to know you before getting a good bond.
We have to say this pair have not put a foot wrong while In my care, neither have even considered a nip and their manners have been very good. They eat everything I give them ( in huge amounts lol) and are not noisy macaws, I can let them sit on top of their cage and they will stay up there and not go bothering birds in other cages, however I cannot say in a normal home they won’t climb down and wander.
They’ve had aviary time both at their last home and while here every other day, it would be nice if their new home had space to put up an aviary to allow them what they are used to.
I am looking for someone with parrot experience who will give these birds another amazing home, where they will get the time put into them they deserve and so am looking to house them where there is not already a large flock of parrots, one or maybe two is fine.
They are quite happy spending time together but will need daily time commitment from their new keeper to get the best out of life.
We would like to point out, as always we rehome only to the right home, not to the best out of who applies, if the right person. Isn’t among the applications we wait and find them. Thank you
